"This place has the best coffee in Newtown", she said, staring longingly at her soy latté, while I admired the crema on my long black..

"Woah! That's a big call", I replied.

"Well, maybe Campos is better, if you don't mind waiting half an hour for a coffee ."

"And this fruit toast is great." she said, enjoying her choice of the chunky jams provided.

Chappie had sent me this postcard with a drawing of the Black Star Pastry shop on the front. She wrote that we should catch up there over brekky. Would I say no to that offer?!

The little pastry shop just slightly off the main drag in Newtown is a great place.

They open at 7am and have excellent coffee. I don't know if it is the 'best in Newtown', but it's certainly right up there in the top tier. And Chappie likes the brand of soy milk that they use.

There is a delightful ambience, too. Loose cushions to sit on inside, and a quirky set of outdoor furniture for the smokers!

And of course there's the pastries . . . .
